Snowplow Drivers Gearing Up for Busy Weekend

We can expect a one-two punch of winter storms this week. With snow and wind forecast for Thursday and again on Friday, snowplow operators can also expect a busy weekend.

In order to keep roads safe, snowplow drivers are going to need to re-arrange their holiday plans and keep plows in tip-top shape.

"It sounds like a three-day storm starting tonight going through Saturday. Sounds like a LOT of snow," Grand Forks Street Supervisor Blake Beckstead said Wednesday.

A projected one-two punch storm in the Grand Forks area is keeping these snowplow drivers busy.

More snow is expected to add our to our already above-average snowfall.

"I was looking at the blade pile for this year. We already used 100. We only ordered 200 for the whole year and it's only December," Beckstead said.

Workers say changing plow blades and making salt brine are ways to prepare for snowfall. Some have had to re-arrange their New Year's schedules.

Many plow drivers will be spending their New Year's weekend keeping streets in Grand Forks safe.

Beckstead says having an advance warning, like in this week's storm, helps them to prepare and get everything organized.
