The first winter blast of the season caught motorists in Minnesota off guard. The highway patrol responded to more than 800 crashes on Minnesota highways over the weekend. Troopers are investigating three fatalities. Of the accidents, 109 resulted in injuries. Nearly 400 vehicles ran off the road and needed to be towed. The patrol wants to remind drivers to use a safe speed for winter driving conditions to avoid becoming a statistic.
