BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A man shot by Bismarck police after authorities say he pointed a rifle at officers following a four-hour standoff is recovering after surgery.

Police have arrested the 43-year-old man on a terrorizing charge but have not identified him. Sgt. Mark Buschena (boo-SHEE'-nuh) says two officers have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure after a shooting involving police.

Buschena says officers responded to a mobile home about 8 p.m. Tuesday after a report of a man holding people hostage at gunpoint, and a SWAT team eventually was called in.

Buschena says that after hours of on-and-off negotiations with the man over the telephone, the man came out of the home about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, pointed a rifle at officers and was shot. No one else was hurt.
