Authorities say Daniel Wacht, 30, is a suspect in the murder of Kurt Johnson of Cooperstown. Wacht is being held in the Stutsman County Jail in Jamestown on probation violation charges out of California. He has not been charged yet with anything relating to Johnson's death. He was arrested Wednesday in Cooperstown by Griggs County authorities.

Kurt D. Johnson was reported missing on January 4th, after last seen on New Year's Eve in Cooperstown with Wacht. Residents say Wacht was a convicted felon who had moved to the area recently from California and worked for one of the manufacturers in Cooperstown. They say he was showing off a gun at a bar the night Johnson disappeared.

Johnson's body was found this week in Cooperstown.

Johnson worked as a transportation engineer for NDSU. He was a Cooperstown native and had cousins that live in the area.

The North Dakota State Court website records show Wacht was picked up and charged with driving without liability insurance in November. Griggs County officials expected he would appear in court on Friday in front of Judge James Hovey.
