His name is Josh Schuler, but he'd forgive you if you didn't remember him. After all, his head coach found him by mistake.
"We were at a tournament in Louisville, Kentucky. Actually, I was just watching the game with a buddy of mine," head coach Brian Jones said.
"He actually wasn't there to watch me. He was there to watch the game before mine," Schuler said.
Coach Jones kept watching, and Josh kept scoring.
"I played pretty well that tournament, I don't remember stats or anything, but I was definitely playing good," Schuler said.
As a prep, Josh starred at St. Paris Graham High School, where he was the leading scorer on a team that went undefeated on back-to-back regular seasons.
He finished his prep career as Ohio's division II co-player of the year. But of the thirteen division I colleges in Ohio, none of them offered him a scholarship. All of them thought Josh wasn't athletic enough to play at the division I level.
"I'm not as athletic as some of their players, but I feel like I know how to play the right way, and that's another reason why I'm so glad they (UND) gave me a chance because they actually saw my strengths instead of just looking at my weaknesses," Schuler said.
Halfway into his first season for the Sioux, Josh has already been named Great West Conference player of the week and leads the team in minutes. As Josh would put it, he's simply taking advantage of his chance.
