DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) - The manager of a Devils Lake-area water board says the group will have to cover an unexpected $87,000 expense related to an irrigation test project.
The project used water in the upper part of the flooded basin to grow specialty crops. It was discontinued because much of the soil was too poor to be irrigated.
Jeff Frith tells KZZY radio that the federal government wants to be reimbursed for its share of the cost of some equipment. Frith says that will be done, but it will hurt the ability of the Devils Lake Basin Joint Water Resource Board to participate in other water projects.
