Construction Projects on Schedule in the Lake Region

As Devils Lake continues to rise, so does the urgency to complete a number of road construction projects. Assistant Department of Transportation District Engineer Greg Semenko says they're not behind, but they're not ahead.

As Devils Lake continues to rise, so does the urgency to complete a number of road construction projects.

Assistant Department of Transportation district engineer Greg Semenko says they're not behind, but they're not ahead.

Construction has stopped on Highways 20 and 57 for the winter months, but as soon as the the first thaw comes, crews will be back out.

Semenko says workers will be battling the waters so they'll take the time they can get.

As of right now they have widened Highway 57. Now they need to work on the elevation.

"As the lake comes up, it impacts our road system in different ways and we start working as quick as we can get to them," Semenko said.

Contractors are hoping to be done with parts of Highway 19 by July 1st.

Semenko says there will be even more traffic delays during the coming construction season than last year.
