WEST FARGO – Police here arrested two alleged car prowlers early today, the third such group to be caught in West Fargo in the past two weeks.

An officer spotted two suspicious men at 12:43 a.m. in the 500 block of Seventh Avenue West. One of the men saw the officer, dropped something and ran, but the officer was able to cut off the other man and detain him, Sgt. Jason Dura said in a news release.

The detained man had a backpack full of stolen items, and police determined the item dropped by the man who ran was an expensive bow, Dura said.

The man who fled was found after about a 90-minute search with a police dog.

Dylan Christopher Moothart, 19, of Hawley, Minn., and Scott Michael Edward Pearson, 21, of Arizona, were arrested on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle. Moothart also was arrested on suspicion of fleeing a police officer and minor in consumption, while Pearson is accused of possessing drug paraphernalia, as well.

Dura said most of the property recovered was taken in the area from Second Avenue West to Ninth Avenue West and from the Sheyenne River to Eighth Street West. People in that area who notice property missing from their vehicles are asked to contact West Fargo police.

The bow was returned to its owner.

Dura reminded owners to make sure their vehicles are locked and that valuables aren’t left inside.
