Hundreds of new jobs will soon be available in Kittson County.
Northstar Agri Industries broke ground Tuesday on a new canola refining plant near Hallock.
People packed the room to hear about the new plant from Minnesota's governor, a U.S. Senator and other lawmakers, a plant that will cost more than $160 million to build.
200 to 250 people will work at the Northstar Argri Industries plant south of Hallock during construction. 45 to 50 people will be employed there permanently.
It's a long road from what Mayor Paul Clay is used to seeing in Hallock. The area has been dealing with population loss, instead of growth, for years.
Now they will have something new to work on: figure out where all the employees are going to live. But leaders say it's not a problem, but an opportunity for growth.
