A construction delay means it could be six months or more before passengers start arriving and departing from Winnipeg's new air terminal.

It was expected the James A. Richardson International Airport would open late last year, but problems with underground piping pushed back the completion date.

Repairs have still not been completed and the Winnipeg Airport Authority says it must give vendors three months notice before the facility is ready for the public.

Authority spokeswoman Christine Alonga says the airport will definitely open this year.
