A local group is reaching out to kids to teach them the meaning of Martin Luther King Day.

The Americorps Vista of Grand Forks with UND's Multicultural Center taught not only kids but parents about the true message of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream Speech". The Session included a viewing of the speech and a discussion.

Leaders were surprised of how much kids already know about Martin Luther King.

"Racism, hate and discrimination is something that's taught no one is born with that. So if we don't do anything at the younger end and the grow up with all this animosity and racism against people," said Dr. Matsimela Changa Diop, Director of UND's Multicultural Student Services.

Diop says we have to teach children about racism at young age before its harder to change their minds.
