FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Local officials met in Fargo Monday with Sen. John Hoeven and Rep. Rick Berg to discuss preparation for spring flooding on the Red River and its tributaries.

City and county officials briefed the group on work already completed or under way. They stressed the ongoing work that's been done to reduce the need for sandbagging and other temporary measures.

The Forum newspaper reported that Fargo plans to begin holding neighborhood meetings in February to ensure residents know what they need to do to protect property.

A December flood outlook from the National Weather Service showed a 58 percent chance the Red River in Fargo will reach major flood stage of 30 feet. The river crested at just under 37 feet last year.
