A bill proposed in the North Dakota Legislature that would have banned any alcohol use at college sporting events, including tailgating, suffered a resounding defeat Wednesday.

The House Education Committee voted to give the bill a "do not pass" recommendation on a thirteen to two vote.

Most members agreed that lawmakers did not need to get involved in an issue that's seems be handled well by the universities.

The entire house chamber will vote on the bill next week.
