UND Students Say Bitterly Cold Temperatures Make Long Walks to Classes 'Brutal'

Winter weather and wind chill advisories for Thursday make staying inside sound like a great idea.

Not everyone can, of course, and students who go to classes everyday at the University of North Dakota typically do not have that choice.

"My hands are freezing, my face is numb. It sucks. Especially being at the furthest dorm from all the buildings," said Patrick Fitzgibbons about the arctic air.

"I have to walk a half mile everyday. It's terrible. Brutal," said Karl Molvig.

It will be even more brutal in the coming days when a cold front moves in from the North.

In Grand Forks, it will go from cold to colder.

"I didn't have a cold three days ago and now I do. It gets you quick," said Phillip Wirtz.

For some students, avoiding the frigid wind chill is all about who you know.

"I try to find a ride so someone can drop me off," said Tarah Peters.

If that doesn't work, this student said she has a backup plan.

"Coffee or cappuccino. It warms my hands," said Peters with a laugh.
