Preliminary damage estimates in a Grand Forks apartment fire that left around 15 people homeless are expected to reach nearly $800,000.
The building damage could total $550,000, with damages to the contents of the apartment being around $240,000 according to Grand Forks Public Information Officer Kevin Dean.
The investigation started today into the fire. Firefighters have been on the scene since the initial fire started Thursday night. They have securing the area and helping tenants get some of their belongings.
The cause of the fire is determined to be unattended cooking.
