A program in Grand Forks aimed at helping prevent violence is getting a boost.

Verizon Wireless donated $10,000 to help pay for the Community Violence Intervention Center's "New Choices Program."

The program helps offenders learn new ways to cope with their violence and have more stable relationships.

The CVIC has helped many people overcome domestic violence issues, but they say sometimes the money isn't there to keep programs going.

"So we chose organizations across the nation that we feel are being a real benefit to their communities and that’s what we are supporting," said John Flannery, Verizon Wireless's Vice President of Governmental Affairs.

Verizon also donates cell phones to CVIC crisis programs.
