Ice is Iffy in Some Spots on Devils Lake

This will be a very big weekend in the Lake Region with the Devils Lake Volunteer Fire Department Ice Fishing Tournament being held.

Those preparing the ice say it's ready.

Woodland Resort has been working to keep the ice clear of snow for the participants, as well as others who want to get on the lake to fish.

Finding a fishing spot has been a problem this winter because of all the snow.

With the warmer weather lately, ice and snow are melting.

That's causing some spots to become slushy.

People need to be aware of their surroundings.

Jeff Katzer plows the trails for Woodland Resort.

He says, "the ice is safe, but you get into an area like this, and you've got all this slush and people are getting stuck. Now you're not going to fall through this."

The snow is so high on the lake that plows can't just make a road around the ice, a spot actually has to be created to put the ice house off the trail.
