With temperatures staying below zero, and a wind chill advisory, students at schools in Devils Lake have to spend the day inside.

Schools have rules that do not permit students to go outside if the temperature is 10 below or close to it.

Sweetwater Elementary Principal Debra Follman says when it's announced in the morning that the students will be not be going outside, she hears many groans from classrooms, but they are allowed free time in their classroom or in the gym.

"We try as much as we can to allow students to go outside for some physical activity," Follman said.
