GRAND FORKS, N.D. - University of North Dakota running back Josh Murray was dismissed from the football team Thursday for a violation of team rules, according to UND head coach Chris Mussman.
Mussman told WDAZ that Murray's dismissal is not for legal or academic reasons. Murray sat out the 2009 season on an academic suspension.
"I have to do what's right by our football team," Mussman said. "I felt (dismissing Murray) was the right thing to do."
Mussman added: "I believe in second chances, and we're past that point."
As a junior in the fall of 2010, Murray led UND in rushing with 670 yards on 121 carries. He scored four touchdowns.
In 2008, Murray led all Fighting Sioux rushers with 1,146 yards on 188 carries with 12 touchdowns, and was named to the All-Great West Conference first team.
Murray is a native of Pepin, Wis.
