BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's English state motto may soon have a Latin companion.
The state House has endorsed "Serit ut alteri saeclo prosit" (SARE'-it ut AL'-tur-ee CY'-cloh PRO'-sit) as North Dakota's Latin motto.
In English, the motto means "One sows for the benefit of another age."
House members voted 75-19 on Thursday to approve the new motto. It now goes to the North Dakota Senate for further work.
Bismarck state Rep. Karen Karls says a group of Fargo high school Latin students pushed the idea.
North Dakota's English motto is, "Liberty and Union, Now and Forever, One and Inseparable."
