Congressman Rick Berg made his first stop in Devils Lake Thursday since going to Washington.

Devils Lake Mayor Dick Johnson started a meeting with Congressman Berg by saying, he gets it.

What does he get?

That the entire Devils Lake Basin is in need of emergency help.

Berg says even with the snow covered lake he could see the work being done on the embankment, the build up of roads, and the homes that will soon be inundated with water.

He heard from Ramsey County, Minnewauken, the Army Corps of Engineers and Camp Grafton.

He talked about the control structure, the proposed east end outlet and discussed other possible options.

Berg says people need to stop looking at what he calls the symptoms of flooding and get to the core of the problem.

"One of my frustrations here in Devils Lake is the symptom has been, we have to raise the roads, we have to raise the roads, we have to do that, where the problem is how do we get water off the lake," explained Senator Berg.

Berg says Devils Lake will be one of his biggest concerns in the coming years.
