High winds make fighting Wadena fire difficult
Nimrod, MN (WDAY TV) - Strong winds are making it difficult for crews to put out a grass fire near Wadena.By: WDAY Staff Reports, WDAY
Strong winds are making it difficult for crews to put out a grass fire near Wadena. Fourteen hundred acres had burned by late Sunday afternoon six miles south of Nimrod.
Today the fire is 80% contained. No injuries have been reported, but an attached garage was gutted and a trailer home believed to be a hunting cabin was lost. Evacuations were necessary Sunday, but everyone was back in their homes by Sunday night.
Two National Guard Black Hawk helicopters joined the DNR air fleet today. The Black Hawks have buckets that can carry 600 gallons of water. Burning restrictions continue to be in effect.
