Former Deputy Ron Nord and former Chief Deputy Bob Thomas have turned in petitions to run for Walsh County Sheriff.

That makes three candidates whose names will be on the ballot for the April 12th special election for sheriff including current Sheriff Lauren Wild who is automatically placed on the ballot.

Nord told WDAZ that he's going to run his campaign the same way he did for last year's general election.

The special election was initiated when Walsh County citizens submitted a recall petition after Sheriff Wild fired former deputy Nord the day after the general election in November.

The two ran against each other in the election and Wild won.

Wild accused Nord of spreading lies about him during the campaign. Nord disputes those allegations.
