FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Fargo is calling for volunteers to begin filling sandbags on Feb. 14 in preparation for possible spring flooding along the Red River.
Officials said Monday they want to have 3 million sandbags filled by mid-March.
A warehouse dubbed "Sandbag Central" will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Shuttle buses will be running from several locations in Fargo to get volunteers to the worksite.
A National Weather Service flood outlook in late January gave a 20 percent chance that the river will surpass the record crest of 2009 and a 50 percent chance it would exceed last year's crest.
