BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — As a North Dakota state waltz, the tune "Dancing Dakota" had two left feet in the state Senate on Tuesday.
The song by Mandan songwriter and performer Chuck Suchy (SUE'-chee) was suggested for the honor.
Critics of the idea said there should be a contest instead. North Dakota senators voted 32-14 on Tuesday to reject the "Dancing Dakota" song as the official waltz.
North Dakota already has a state song. It's called the North Dakota Hymn. The legislation did not replace the song and established it as North Dakota's state hymn.
The bill is SB2194.
