Coordinated Regional Flood Effort Underway
Making sure the Red River Valley is ready for a flood fight. That's the reason Senator Al Franken and Governor Mark Dayton met with local leaders Friday in Crookston.By: David Schwab, WDAZ
U.S Senator Al Franken and Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton, along with officials from the Minnesota National Guard and FEMA, talked about northern valley preps for this spring's predicted flood.
County and city officials from northwestern Minnesota were at the meeting to both listen and ask questions. Oslo Mayor Scott Kosmatka told the Governor his town has its hands full. "One of the issues I urge you to look at is water retention," Kosmatka told the Governor Mark Dayton.
Governor Dayton says he is looking beyond this flood as he is seeking money for flood mitigation saying "About 28 million dollars for flood control projects along the Red River, but if there's a need for more I invite legislators to add to those projects, and ask for their support. "
But the real focus of Friday's meeting was getting ready for the ice that is out there now, waiting to melt.
