HAM LAKE, Minn. (AP) — The deaths of an elderly Ham Lake couple in a house fire are hitting hard for neighbors and friends.

Helen and Walter Ehrnreiter were both 93. Anoka County investigators are still trying to determine the exact cause of the Friday night fire, but Lt. Paul Sommer says it might have originated with a wood-burning stove insert in their fireplace.

Maryann Egan, a friend of the couple, says they made a perfect team. Egan says Helen Ehrnreiter was the legs of the couple because she was healthy, but was starting to have trouble with words, while Walter Ehrnreiter was still sharp but had trouble getting around.

Egan and her husband say the Ehrnreiters were both active members of the Church of St. Paul in Ham Lake and rarely missed Sunday Mass.
