Many people will spend this Memorial Day Weekend tossing hot dogs on the grill, and lighting up fire pits.
Here's a reminder to stay safe -- Firefighters say fires in barbeques and pits can quickly spread. Those should always be set far from combustible materials, and have plenty of space for ventilation.
They should not be near houses, side walls, or under any type or canvas. Make sure your barbeque is working properly and is well cleaned before lighting it up.
Capt. Bob Cuchna with the Fargo Fire Department says, "charcoal grills have hot embers that can fall in places, they shouldn't be near combustible materials, whether it is a charcoal grill or a gas grill."
Also, remember to put out and cool fire pits before leaving them unattended.
