New Candy and Flower Shop Opens In Grand Forks

A new candy and flower shop opened in Grand Forks just in time for Valentine's Day.

The sweetness of Grand Forks' new candy shop is making James Haugen smile. "It's Simply Sweet Too" opened just in time for Valentine's Day.

“If you're having a bad day you come on in here. We'll try and make it better, and if you're having a good day, maybe we can make it better yet,” owner David Field said.

Field opened the store with his wife Barb.

“She bakes about 90 dozen cookies a week and the fudges and barks and everything,” Field said.

The building also has a flower shop connected to it. "Speaking Roses From the Heart" prints notes or pictures on a flower.

“Any customized photo, image you want directly on a flower with a patented embossing and technique. You never send a greeting card without words. Why would you send flowers?” owner Larry Cronin said.

Not only are the flowers custom-made, but also the candy. Some of the recipes are more than 100 years old.

“She was an executive chef in Colorado for several years at Pampered Pallet,” Field said.

David's wife has satisfied a sweet teeth since she was a child. Some of her rich recipes are from her grandmother.

“She knows her way around the kitchen,” says David.

This is the couple's third store to open in the area just over the last year, including a café in Kennedy, MN, and another candy store in Stephen.

“It's all homemade. It looks really good,” customer James Haugen said.

That’s the sweet story Field wants to hear from customers as they leave the store.

The stores are on Columbia Road in the same strip mall as Phoenix Wok and Grill.
