The man known as the "grandfather of snowmobiling" has died.
According to his obituary in the Star Tribune, Edgar Hetteen died Saturday at the age of 90.
Hetteen was a Roseau native who founded Polaris and Arctic Cat snowmobiling companies in the 1950s and 1960s in northwestern Minnesota.
Hetteen is credited with many developments in snowmobiles, including the aluminum chassis and forward-mounted engine.
In the 1980s he founded a company in Grand Rapids which sells Posi-traks to companies and the military for clearing land mines.
