Fire marshals have finished their investigation into an apartment fire that left 18 people homeless.

The fire started January 20th at the Roughrider Apartment building at 2530 17th Avenue South.

Battalion Chief Rob Corbett says the investigation confirmed the fire was started when two men accidentally left a pan of oil cooking unattended on a stove.

The fire was put out that night but rekindled the next day, destroying the apartment complex and leading to $790,000 in damage.

Corbett says because the fire was ruled accidental, he does not think any charges will be filed.

The insurance company or homeowner could still file suit.
