Devils Lake School Board Adding Student Member

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) - The Devils Lake School Board is taking the unusual step of adding a student member.
Superintendent Steve Swiontek says that the student will be a junior or senior elected by the student body and could be seated as early as the end of the month. He or she will not have a vote and will not be allowed to attend executive sessions but will be allowed to take part in discussions of regular meeting agenda items.
Swiontek says he isn't aware of any other school district that has a student board member.
