All power is back on to affected customers in southern Grand Forks, Xcel Energy spokeswoman Bonnie Lund says.

Around 2,000 customers were affected by the outage that was first reported at around 6:30 p.m. Monday night affecting homes and businesses in south Grand Forks.

Wal-mart and Sam's club were among businesses that went dark.

Lund said crews were encountering "multiple problems" when investigating. It appears an underground cable broke, causing the outage.

Earlier Monday, about two-thirds of the homes in the East Grand Forks neighborhood of the Point were without power from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. An East Grand Forks Water and Light spokesperson said the cause of that outage was also a broken underground cable.
