North Dakota Democrats are supporting a one-year income tax credit that they say will return $46 million to taxpayers.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Democrats are supporting a one-year income tax credit that they say will return $46 million to taxpayers.

The North Dakota Legislature's Democratic floor leaders want to introduce the proposal in both the House and Senate on Tuesday.

The proposal needs Republican support to be introduced in the Legislature because bill introduction deadlines have passed.

Republicans have their own proposals for permanent reductions in North Dakota's income tax.

The Democratic bill would give a $167 tax credit to single taxpayers and a $250 credit to couples.

Taxpayers would collect the credit when they file their tax returns next year.

Senate Democratic leader Ryan Taylor of Towner says if the bill can't be introduced, Democrats will attempt to attach their bill to other tax legislation.
