Grand Forks County Commissioners want to make sure they're ready for high water, so they held a special meeting Tuesday.
Commissioners approved the Grand Forks County Emergency Declaration to get help from FEMA if it's needed.
They talked with the department heads about what needs to be done in case of flooding emergencies.
The level of concern was heightened by a National Weather Service outlook that shows a 50 percent chance of the Red River reaching 50.1 feet.
"At that elevation, there will be county residents that will have to be doing flood protection. I would anticipate there will be sandbagging south of Grand Forks and also north of Grand Forks," emergency manager Jim Campbell said.
The Sheriff's department is getting an airboat next month to be better prepared for water emergencies.
