Premier: Province May Pay for Red River Dredging

Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger says the province would consider funding the cost of dredging the Red River north of Winnipeg.

By: Associated Press,

Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger says the province would consider funding the cost of dredging the Red River north of Winnipeg.

Federal dredging of the Red ended in 1999 and municipalities north of the city say they need the work done to prevent spring ice jams that lead to flooding.

Municipal politicians have lobbied federal and provincial leaders to address the problem of river silting.

Selinger says he regrets that Ottawa abandoned the dredging.
