Hastings, MN, Driver Who Ran Over Man Twice Gets 1 Year in Jail

A man who ran over another man twice while driving drunk in Rosemount has been sentenced to a year in jail.

HASTINGS, Minn. (AP) — A man who ran over another man twice while driving drunk in Rosemount has been sentenced to a year in jail.

The Star Tribune reports 33-year-old Saddam Samaan had pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular operation. A Dakota County judge sentenced him to 365 days in jail and stayed 23 months. The crime can carry a five-year prison sentence.

Samaan was convicted of drunken driving in 2005, 2006 and 2008.

In the most recent incident on Feb. 7, 2010, the complaint says Samaan drove over the sidewalk outside a bar, hit the victim and dragged him. The victim became dislodged when Samaan hit a snowbank, but was run over again by the vehicle's rear tires. The victim was critically injured.
