100,000 Sandbags to be Stockpiled for Grand Forks CountyAt least 100,000 sandbags will be stockpiled in Grand Forks County by March. While just a precautionary move, city officials say it's good to be prepared.
At least 100,000 sandbags will be stockpiled in Grand Forks County by March.
Grand Forks Public Information Director Kevin Dean says this is just a precaution, even though the city is well-protected from the flood because of the flood walls and levees.
Dean says clay can be added to those levees in case flood waters go over 60 feet. Right now, he says the city is keeping an eye on National Weather Service predictions.
Just to be safe, they want to have a high number of sandbags.
"Sandbags are always good to have in the event of some type of emergency or something that needs to be shored up. A little additional help," Dean said.
Grand Forks County has not yet asked for community volunteers to help filling sandbags.
"That would be used in an emergency basis. We don't have to rely on sandbags nearly as much now as we did 14 years ago, and not nearly as much as other communities," Dead said.
