Public Meeting Held on New Wellness Center Traffic Impact

The proposed new wellness center in south Grand Forks is expected to bring a lot more traffic to the area. So Wednesday night, city planners held a meeting to get public input on ways to help the traffic flow.

The Metropolitan Planning Organization has started a corridor study for South Washington Street.

They're looking at the current and future design of the street, as well as traffic signals, stop signs and where to enter and exit the wellness center, which will be built on the east side of South Washington Street between the intersections of 40th Avenue South and 47th Avenue South.

The main concern voiced at the meeting was keeping traffic on South Washington Street and not on the side roads where there are homes.

"We'd like to see 47th Avenue South stay predominately residential after it passes the wellness center and commercial traffic stick to Washington Street if it all possible," Kevin Kuntz, south Grand Forks resident said.

This is just the beginning of the study. There will be another public open house in May.
