Roseau County Woman Shot in Hunting Accident

Roseau County Deputy accidentally shot his wife in the leg.

The wife of a Roseau county sheriff deputy has been brought to Altru Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

The injury is the result of hunting accident.

The accident happened Sunday afternoon after Deputy Nathan Cossentine and his wife, Michelle, returned home and were sitting in their Suburban.

Nathan was checking to see if the gun was loaded when the gun went off. A a bullet skimmed across the top of Michelle's leg. While the bullet did go into the skin and fatty tissue. the muscle and bone were not touched.

Roseau County Sheriff Terry Bandemer says it was an accident. "This was an accident," Bandemer said. "Nathan feels really, really bad. Too bad this had to happened. There are accidents that happen around this time of the year. It's just good this was not a serious one."

Michelle Cossentine will be staying at Altru for a few days to be monitored for any possible infection.
