A Community Garden Renewed For 5 Years

Neighbors were concerned about privacy, and asked that a fence be put around the garden. The council agreed, but said the garden's organizers will have to foot the $1,000 bill.

Organizers of an Urban Community Garden in Grand Forks are going to have to come up with $1,000 to build a fence around the site.

The city renewed the lease this week after the garden's success and popularity in Grand Forks. Neighbors were concerned about privacy, and asked that a fence be put around the garden. The council agreed, but said the garden's organizers will have to foot the $1,000 bill.

The group plans to raise funds for the project.

"We decided that we would give them the chance to raise the money first to pay for the fence. So what they are doing is letting people buy planks or sections basically and put their name on them," City Council Member Tyrone Grandstrand said.
