Council president Dick Grassel died Monday after a battle with liver cancer.

There were lots of tears and memories about Grassel and what he's meant to the city of East Grand Forks.

Grassel's family was presented a plaque in honor of his 22 years on the council.

The council also voted to name a playground at the Red River State Recreation Area in East Grand Forks in his name.

It will be called the "Richard L. Grassel Park."

Dick was one of the biggest advocates for the park, which has been extremely successful.
