Crime Down, But GF County Sees First Murder in Five Years

Numbers of assaults increases
On Thursday, the Grand Forks County Sheriff's Department released its 2010 crime statistics.

Overall crime was down in Grand Forks County last year, but the Sheriff's Department is investigating its first murder in five years.

That was the murder of 59-year-old Donald Chisholm of Manvel, ND.

His brother Rodney is charged in the murder.

On Thursday, the Grand Forks County Sheriff's Department released its 2010 crime statistics.

In addition to homicides, assaults were also up over the last five years.

In 2010, the sheriff's department responded to 66 assaults.

The average over the four previous years was 42.

The number of thefts and rapes in the county was down in 2010, and there were no robberies reported.
