After the comedy duo Williams and Ree were asked by a representative of a Grand Forks hosting facility to not use the word "indian" in their act, negotiations for a show fell apart. A VenueWorks spokesman says the act was among others up for consideration for an event at the Alerus Center.

Now the act who call themselves "the Indian and the White Guy" will be playing the Empire Arts Center in Grand Forks.

A news release issued Friday said that after it came out that the group wouldn't be performing, "many community members and even Williams and Ree themselves were disappointed."

“We saw just how much the community wanted to see the show, so we jumped at the opportunity to bring them to the Empire,” said Cathy Foy, Empire Arts Center Executive Director.

The Empire Arts Center will host William & Ree on March 15th, 2011 for two shows at 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Tickets go on sale Tuesday at 9:00 am for $25. Call 777-4090 to reserve your seats.

The Empire says it won't place any restrictions on the show.

“The Empire is always open to hosting a wide variety of shows and events for all types of audiences,” said Foy. “We see Williams & Ree as a great opportunity to bring a fun and well-known act to our community and look forward to it being a great event.”
