BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota college students are pushing for more disclosure of how their fees are spent.

A bill in the North Dakota House would require some reporting. It says the Board of Higher Education must publish mandatory fees charged by each state college, and give details about what the money was for.

Grand Forks Sen. Mac Schneider is sponsoring the bill. He says fees make up almost 20 percent of the cost of going to a state college.

The measure also says schools can't increase fees by more than 1 percent of tuition for the next two years. The board could grant exceptions to the limit if students demanded it.

The state Senate unanimously approved the bill. The House Education Committee reviewed it Wednesday and took no action.

It is SB2351.
