Large Donation to Reopen Lake Region Heritage Center

Financial problems have kept the Lake Region Heritage Center from opening for anything other than special events since about November. But a recent donation will change that status.

Financial problems have kept the Lake Region Heritage Center from opening for anything other than special events since about November.

But a recent donation will change that status.

Rick and Susan Jordahl of Moorhead recently donated a piece of land to the Heritage Center. The profit from that land should provide enough income for the Heritage Center to remain open indefinitely.

The donation is one-third of 15.72 acres of commercial property in Devils Lake and there is a buyer currently interested in purchasing the property.

"It's probably one of the largest gifts that has ever been received by the community of Devils Lake and we're extremely grateful to the Jordahl family," George Zenk with the museum said.

Zenk says he's not sure when the museum will be open again for good. It all depends on when the property is sold.

The Jordahl's were given the key to the city at a ceremony held on Tuesday.
