GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Taylor Dickin's first collegiate goal proved to be the game-winner as top-ranked North Dakota beat Michigan Tech 3-1 Saturday for a sweep of their two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoff series.
North Dakota (28-8-3) advances to the WCHA Final Five. Michigan Tech (4-30-4) finished the year 1-29-2 in its last 32 games.
Dickin broke a 1-1 tie at 5:34 of the second period. Brett Hextall scored to tie the game and Matt Frattin had an empty-netter late. Frattin has a point in 11 straight games.
Ryan Furne gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead early in the first period. Brett Hextall tied it for UND early in the second and Dickin followed two minutes later.
Aaron Dell made 18 stops in a rare close game between the two teams. North Dakota had beaten Michigan Tech three previous times in the past week by a combined score of 25-3.
