Airports in North Dakota Bringing in Billions of Dollars for StateThe Aeronautics commission released new numbers Tuesday on the income airports generate for the State of North Dakota.
The Aeronautics commission released new numbers Tuesday on the income airports generate for the State of North Dakota.
The economic impact study is conducted every five years. This year $1.6 billion was generated in total economic activity at airports in North Dakota.
Locally at the Devils Lake Regional Airport, the output was $9.7 million.
The boardings at the airport went up 32 percent last year and 53 percent in the last two years.
Airport Manager Jon Nord credits the increase in both boardings and income to awareness of the airport.
"Our increase in the Devils Lake area wasn't due to any of the charter flights that are quite common around the state now, we don't have the fortunate oil boom in our area," said Nord
He says he wasn't surprised at the results of the study and he expects them to continue to go up in the coming years.
