BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — When North Dakota's next legislative district map is drawn, Cass County may have as many as two new districts. That would mean more political power for North Dakota's largest county.

Two districts would increase Cass County's delegation in the North Dakota House and Senate from 27 seats to 33. That's almost one-fourth of the Legislature.

Nine of the Legislature's districts have all or most of their territory inside Cass County. Each one is represented by a senator and two House members.

New federal census data released Wednesday show Bismarck and Burleigh County are close to gaining another legislative district. Bismarck's five districts added more than 10,000 residents among them. A district is about 14,300 people.

Minot and Grand Forks haven't had enough population growth to justify added districts.
