History was made in Devils Lake Monday night as the first student member of a school board in North Dakota was sworn in.

Carson's Ouellette inaugural term will be short. That's because he's a senior at Devils Lake High School. His role will be non-voting and will be primarily a link between the school board and students.

Carson says he thinks he can be very beneficial to both.

"Hopefully if something major comes up in planning that the whole district, or the whole public school district can be a part of, I hope that I can be the voice for the students," Ouellette said.

The student member will not be part of executive sessions and is not required to be at summer board meetings.
